    Mathis High School National Honor Society Sponsors Blood Drive on September 11th

    The Coastal Bend Blood Center mobile unit will be parked at Mathis High School on Monday, September 11 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.  National Honor Society (NHS) students are the sponsors, and the NHS students will assist the Coastal Bend Blood Center staff. 

    Requirements to give blood include: 17 years of age or older; in good health; weigh at least 110 pounds;  have not donated blood in the last eight weeks; have normal blood pressure, temperature, and pulse rate; do not have a cold or a sore throat; not pregnant; and, not taking antibiotics for an active infection.  A detailed qualifications list is available on the Coastal Bend Blood Center website, www.coastalbendbloodcenter.org.

    Blood donors may donate blood on behalf of a Mathis High School senior in the “Red Cord Heroes” program.  Graduating seniors who are designated by donors as participants in the program can wear the red cord signifying blood donations at graduation in May.  The Red Cord Heroes are rewarded for the active role they play in raising awareness of the need to become regular blood donors.
