AVID: Advancement Via Individual Determination.

AVID’s mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society.

The AVID program is based on specific strategies that help students access rigorous high school and college preparatory curriculum.
   These strategies are:
  • Writing -  activities that help students understand the content
  • Inquiry -  questioning strategies that help students understand the content
  • Collaboration - Working together with a partner or in a group of students to understand, to problem solve, or to complete a task or project
  • Reading - Any strategies in reading that help students understand the content

Learning Log - student writes what he/she learned in class. An informal, non structured approach to recording this information  may be assigned at the end of a class period, however, students tend to do better at first with a more structured method. The following template may be used. Adjust as needed to fit your students. Once students are comfortable with the assignment, a form is not necessary.
