MHS PRINCIPAL'S WELCOME LETTER

Welcome students and parents to Mathis High School and the 2013-2014 school year. I hope that your summer has been filled with fun, relaxation, and enjoyable learning experiences. After earning a 2013 TEA accountability rating of Acceptable, our MHS staff is focused on working with our students, parents and community to improve Student Achievement and College Readiness throughout our campus as we work to meet Exemplary status. MHS provides quality educational programs for students in grades 9-12. Professional Learning Community teams, such as the 9th grade Pirate Academy, provide support and guidance for students as they transition from middle school to high school. Students utilize the latest in technology allowing them to access the world around them as they become global learners. This year, Mathis High School is excited to offer AVID as an opportunity for selected students. AVID, Advancement Via Individual Determination, is a program that targets students who are in the academic middle who have not traditionally aspired to attend college. The AVID program is designed to help students bridge the gap between high school and a post-secondary college education. For further AVID information or an application to enter the program, please contact the counselor’s office. Furthermore, Mathis High School has a proud tradition of academic, athletic and artistic excellence. A dedicated staff, relevant curriculum and quality resources provide students with rich opportunities to participate in a vast range of student organizations and extracurricular activities such as: UIL, Debate, FFA, AVID, International Studies, Theatre Arts, Health Science, Band, Cheerleading, NHS, Student Council, and Athletics. On behalf of the Mathis High School faculty and staff, I thank you for the opportunity to work with you and your students, and look forward to a great school year!

GO PIRATES!!
Respectfully,
Albert Arismendi, Principal
