Dr. Maria Rodriguez-Casas, Superintendent of Schools, presented the Academic Excellence Indicator System (AEIS) report at a public hearing on Monday, February 17. The AEIS detailed the district’s and each campus’s performance metrics for 2007-2008. The AEIS data is one year behind the current school year. Dr. Rodriguez-Casas said “We continue to be encouraged by the student academic performance and improvements demonstrated in TAKS. The improvements are due to a supportive community, great parents, and a staff dedicated to work as a team to close academic gaps.” The report lists student demographics, instructional activities, and is an overview of the accomplishments and challenges faced by students, faculty, the administration, parents, and community partners in meeting the district’s six goals. The district earned an “academically acceptable” rating, and Weber-Hardin for the fifth year is rated a “recognized” campus. Dr. Rodriguez-Casas detailed the TAKS passing percentages for each campus, and explained how each campus is extending its success this year, or taking corrective measures to improve. She noted that Mathis High School 2007 graduation class rate was 81.2 percent, 3.2 percent above the state rate of 78 percent. A wide range of programs on each campus were listed that support the district goals that emphasize citizenship, curriculum and instructional technology, parent involvement, and attendance. The sixth goal of fiscal accountability and planning continues to be met; the district has earned a “superior achievement” rating from the Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas for the past two years. The AEIS report will be posted on the website, www.mathisisd.org, and copies of the report will be available for review at the Central Office, 602 E. San Patricio Avenue.
