Tuesday, June 16, seventy people met at the Event Center to kick off Mathis I.S.D.’s Long-Term Strategic Plan project to create a 5-year plan and a 10-year plan. Dr. Arturo Almendarez, Calallen I.S.D. superintendent, will lead the planning effort. Dr. Almendarez has lead five strategic plan projects in school districts. Committees have been formed on the following topics: curriculum and instruction, student services, extracurricular activities, personnel, and facilities and finance. Plans are to submit committee recommendations by the end of the summer. Anyone interested in serving on the committees is invited to call the chairman of the committee to learn when the next meeting is scheduled. Cheryl Gillenwater chairs the curriculum and instruction committee that will consider present and future academic requirements and programs. She is available at 361-424-0851. Rosario Zambrano chairs the student services committee that will consider the range of services provided to students today, and the requirements for the next few years. Christopher Casarez is chair of the facilities and finance committee that will consider the present campus infrastructure as well as future campus requirements.
