Mathis I.S.D. Students, Families, and Teachers Celebrate Fiesta Hispana on Saturday

Weber-Hardin Elementary School Pre-Kindergarten students studying in dual language classes performed songs in Spanish and in English at the Fiesta Hispana at the Event Center. The Event Center was alive with music from 11:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 19. Intermediate School’s Honor Guard opened the celebration, followed by student performances from all campuses. McCraw Junior High School’s 21st Century dance troop performed the Spirit Dance; the McCraw cheerleaders led cheers; the Pep Band and Drum Line performed; the Mariachi band played; and the Marcela Espinoza Intermediate Pre-Kindergarten class at Weber-Hardin sang songs.

There was plenty to do for those who like action: a jalapeño-eating contest, bingo, a cake walk, darts as well as choices of foods to eat: cakes and cupcakes, snow cones, popcorn and pickles, cheese nachos, Frito pie, hot dogs, lemonade, brittle, and apples coated in chocolate and caramel, and sodas to wash it all down.
