The Intermediate School kicked off the Veteran’s Day events with a ceremony in the Event Center gym that featured a flag presentation by local Veterans and the Intermediate School Color Guard, and a keynote speech by former state Senator Carlos Truan. Intermediate School Principal announced the Veterans’ Day fifth grade essay contest winners for “What Freedom Means to Me”: 1st Alicia Luna, 2nd Moses Alfaro, 3rd Elyse Rivera, Honorable Mention Jonathan Aguilar. The sixth grade students were asked write an essay on an interview with a veteran. The winners were: 1st Brandi Silva, 2nd Isaiah Garcia, 3rd Elizabeth Alfaro, Honorable Mention Talia Deleon. Weber-Hardin Elementary School students met in the Weber-Hardin gym for the presentation of the flag by local veterans. A group of third-grade students under the leadership of veteran Bart Padron demonstrated the proper folding of the American flag; third grade teacher Ricardo Martinez narrated the significance of each fold. Students from all campuses participated in the Veteran’s Day parade down San Patricio Avenue to Paiz Park.
