Mathis Elementary Policies & Procedures for Students and Parents


ARRIVAL AT SCHOOL - All students should arrive at school by 7:45 each morning. Upon arrival, they are to report either  to their classroom (PK and Kinder) or to the cafeteria (1st and 2nd). Pre-kindergarten and kindergarten will receive breakfast in their classrooms while 1st and 2nd will receive breakfast in the cafeteria. After eating their breakfast, 1st and 2nd graders will then go to the gym until announcements are completed. After announcements they will be escorted to their homeroom classes. Any arrivals after 7:45 a.m. must sign in at the front office and will be considered tardy. Visitor (parent(s)/guardian(s)) must sign in before being allowed to enter the campus halls. Monitors are available throughout the building each morning at 7:15 a.m. to assist and help students get to their destination once they enter the building. No supervision is available before 7:15 a.m.

ATTENDANCE/TARDIES - Students are required to attend school every day unless they are sick. Please call the school if your child will be out sick. Please bring a doctors excuse and turn it into the front office when returning to school. We ask that you keep personal trips to days during the year when children are not in school. The instruction they miss cannot be made up as per district policy. Students are recorded as tardy if entering the school after 7:45 a.m.  Please be at school everyday and on time  

SIGNING IN - Texas law requires visitors to a school to sign in at the office and this policy will be strictly enforced throughout the day. Please bring a photo ID the first time you sign into the office. Anytime you plan to come on campus you must first come to the office to sign in and obtain a visitor's badge which must be visibly worn while on campus.

EMERGENCY CONTACTS - Please make sure that we have updated information on how to reach you and your emergency contacts throughout the year. If the information changes, please let the office or your child’s teacher know. Teachers will not answer the phone when they have children in classroom and the office cannot guarantee a message will get to your child if the call is made too close to dismissal. Only individuals designated on your child’s emergency list will be allowed to pick up your child from school unless we have a note or call from you.

CLASSROOM VISITS - All classroom visits and conferences should be prearranged with the teacher.  Lunch, homework or any other kind of delivery will be accepted in the office to minimize disruptions. Office staff will take items to the classrooms as needed.
